Honduras is the largest coffee producer in Central America and Montecillos is one of the country’s six official coffee growing regions.
Situated along the Salvadorian border in the southwest of the country, Montecillos offers ideal climatic conditions and a range of high altitude plots for the growth of speciality coffee.
This coffee is produced by small- and medium-sized farmers who are among the 660 members of the MARCAFE cooperative. Their coffee is grown over 70 hectares on the slopes of the Sierra de Montecillos. All members of MARCAFE practice environmentally responsible agriculture, fertilising the ground with natural organic material and protecting the forests and water sources.
